This section will be devoted to Scriptural words and their meaning. We will not only establish the etymological roots of these words, but we will reveal how many English words are actually Hebrew words. Everything and anything you might want to know about the Hebrew language will be discussed and presented in this section.

E-mail us if you want to know what a particular word is and we will be happy to post it here for all to read. If you are interested in it, maybe many others are, too.

QUM

Several weeks ago I covered a couple of words that are related to the marching order of Israel as they tore down and moved the camp. This is found in B'midbar 2. I related these terms to the order of the resurrection found in 1 Corinthians 15. We learned that the same word used for 'order' in the resurrection is the same term used only for the order of the 12 tribes. We also learned that the word used to describe the tearing down of the tabernacle was the same word used to describe death.

Another interesting word is found in the setting up of the tabernacle when reaching the promised land. In B'midbar 1:51 we read:

"And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall SET IT UP: and the stranger who comes near shall be put to death."

The words 'set up' here is the word qum in the Hebrew. The word in the LXX here is anastasis. This is the Greek word translated as 'resurrection' in the Brit Chadashah.

Shalom Alecheim!
