This section will be devoted to Scriptural words and their meaning. We will not only establish the etymological roots of these words, but we will reveal how many English words are actually Hebrew words. Everything and anything you might want to know about the Hebrew language will be discussed and presented in this section.E-mail us if you want to know what a particular word is and we will be happy to post it here for all to read. If you are interested in it, maybe many others are, too.
METHUSELAHThe son of Enoch, who walked with God, was named Metushalach. The name given to this son is not happenstance, and was not chosen in a baby names book. Given the ages of the sons of Adam to Noach, we know that the flood came when Metushalach died. This son's name is a combination of two very familiar Hebrew words. The first part is mut, the word for death. The second part is shalach, the word for sending or bringing forth. The word is in the masculine and means 'his death shall bring forth'. Are we starting to get the picture?
Shalom Alecheim!
