NOACH

The last of our fathers listed in the genealogy of Seth in B'reshiyt chapter five is Noah. Noah comes from the word noach in Hebrew and means rest or comfort. You can find Noah's name in many places in the Tanakh.

B'reshiyt 8:4
"And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat."

Sh'mot 20:11
"For in six days YHWH made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore YHWH blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."

A beautiful picture comes into focus that began with Adam and has ended in rest with Noah in B'reshiyt chapter five. When placing all the names together in Hebrew and in just the order they appear we see another testimony of the absolute design of the Word in God.

Adam --- Man

Seth --- (is) appointed

Enosh --- mortal

Kenan --- sorrow

Mahalalel --- (but) the blessed God

Jared --- shall come down

Enoch --- teaching

Methuselah --- his death shall bring

Lamech --- the despairing

Noah --- rest

Shalom Alecheim!
